PhysEx has a list of workshops already developed and approved by the British Columbia Parks & Recreation Association for renewal credits. For facilities and interest outside of British Columbia application can be made with your certifying body to meet continuing education approval.

Workshops to choose from:

Aquaflex: Teaching an aquatic stretch and strength class

Pilates and Yoga classes have grown in popularity over the last several years due to their focus on strength and flexibility. Come to this aquatic workshop to learn the different formats available to teach a stretch and strength class in the pool. Ideas of how to incorporate yoga moves, pilates, and core body strength will be shown, as well how to teach these skills in the aquatic environment.

Aqua Architecture:

Come and "explore" the difference between solutions and some of the common pitfalls when teaching aquafit. This session will include time to brainstorm problem areas, and creative time to explore movement ideas. We will examine class design and structure as review and to help develop more ways of adding flavour to your classes.

Smooth Sailing:

Smooth sailing is a workshop to work out & smooth out the speed bumps when putting movements together. Emphasis will be on smooth transitions, cueing, body awareness and creativity to guide your participants into new movements more easily. This workshop will build on basic water movements and provide a more clear and varied way for you to put together what you are already using.

Water Watch

Learn to identify unforseen injuries that can occur in the pool. Get the facts on why these injuries can and do occur. Session will include exercise analysis review and discussion of the BCRPA Aquafit Advisory committee high risk exercise guidelines. Discussion will also examine industry norms for environmental conditions including class size, class type and water depth relevant to the various facility designs.

Preparing for Presenting

The aquatic fitness industry needs more presenters! Come to this workshop to determine if you are ready to turn your experience into a marketable service. This session will highlight the knowledge, skills, and passion required to become a success.

Aqua Stretch

This shallow water workshop will review the principles of stretching and apply them to the aquatic environment. A variety of techniques will be demonstrated including static, dynamic, partner and yoga stretches. Come and enjoy the fluidity and grace of aqua stretch.

Deep Water Options

Deep water options is a workshop to show instructors how to modify shallow water teaching experience to deep water programs. This workshop will take place in the pool. It will highlight the differences in teaching deep water and give instructors a repertoire of movements and formations to use in their deep water classes.

On The Mark

What goes into planning and teaching hip, hop, happening aquafit classes at your pool? Come prepared to re-asses the proper prep needed to make your class a hit -with effective moves, the right words and some "stellar teaching". Learn how to teach classes with intention, good combos, & muscle balance to better meet your clients needs and keep them coming back for more.

Fitness theory review & BCRPA exam.

This is for students who have already completed their BCRPA Fitness Theory course, for students challenging the exam (seek prior approval to challenge from the BCRPA www.bcrpa.bc.ca), or for students seeking a rewrite of their first exam. A 2 hour exam preparation review will be followed by the option to write the BCRPA exam.
